Fifth Gear: BMW M3 vs. M3 CSL

If you thought the M3 couldn't get any better.. well, it can. I'd take either one of these beauties. But the CSL was limited to just 500 units... rein rown. Cup holders would be nice too.

Master Chief Goes to Harvard

A group of MIT students hacked one of John P. Harvard statues, and equipped it with a Spartan helmet and assault rifle.
"All we can say is "Wow." We may not be able to talk to MIT students very long at parties without getting sleepy, but when it comes to pranks, it's clear that we all speak the same language: Nerd."

Rambo 2008 - Throat Ripping Fun

oh. my. god. this is freaking sweet. Lots of blood, guts and gore in this one, kiddos! So it looks like it's going to be pretty neat. I think they pretty much put the entirety of the good scenes into the trailer. So I wouldn't expect too much more from the actual movie. But it's not as if that is going to stop me from watching this bloodbath on the big screen. Click here for another trailer!

10 Best Old School Movies Online

Brought to you by brblife.com, who stole it from thelistuniverse : 10 Brilliant Complete Movies Online!
So here is a collection of 10 great oldies for you to dl or stream for your viewing pleasure. The list includes:

1. M 1931, Fritz Lang
Someone is murdering children in a German city. The Police search is so intense, it is disturbing the ‘normal’ criminals, and the local hoods decide to help find the murderer as quickly as possible.

2. The Passion of Joan of Arc 1928, Carl Theodor Dreyer
The sufferings of a martyr, Jeanne D’Arc (1412-1431). Jeanne appears in court where Cauchon questions her and d’Estivet spits on her. She predicts her rescue, is taken to her cell, and judges forge evidence against her. In her cell, priests interrogate her and judges deny her the Mass. Threatened first in a torture chamber and then offered communion if she will recant, she refuses. At a cemetery, in front of a crowd, a priest and supporters urge her to recant; she does, and Cauchon announces her sentence. In her cell, she explains her change of mind and receives communion. In the courtyard at Rouen castle, she burns at the stake; the soldiers turn on the protesting crowd. The performance of Maria Falconetti is considered to be the greatest on screen performance in history.

3. Nosferatu 1922, F.W. Murnau
An unauthorized production of Bram Stoker’s work (The legal heirs didn’t give their permission), so the names had to be changed. But this wasn’t enough: The widow of Bram Stoker won two lawsuits (1924 and 1929) in which she demanded the destruction of all copies of the movie, however happily copies of it were already too widespread to destroy them all. Later, the Universal studios could break her resistance against this movie. Count Orlok’s move to Wisburg (Obviously the real “Wismar”) brings the plague traceable to his dealings with the Realtor Thomas Hutter, and the Count’s obsession with Hutter’s wife, Ellen the only one with the power to end the evil.

4. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 1939, Frank Capra
Naive and idealistic Jefferson Smith, leader of the Boy Rangers, is appointed on a lark by the spineless governor of his state. He is reunited with the state’s senior senator–presidential hopeful and childhood hero, Senator Joseph Paine. In Washington, however, Smith discovers many of the shortcomings of the political process as his earnest goal of a national boys’ camp leads to a conflict with the state political boss, Jim Taylor. Taylor first tries to corrupt Smith and then later attempts to destroy Smith through a scandal.

5. It Happened One Night 1934, Frank Capra
Rebellious socialite Ellie Andrews marries King Wesley but her wealthy father has it annulled. Tired of her father’s control, she runs away by diving off the family yacht in Miami and heading for New York. On the bus she meets street-smart reporter Peter Warne. They end up traveling together as Warne hopes to get a great story, and Ellie needs his worldly help. Nearing New York, with their many adventures coming to an end, they find that they are reluctantly in love and afraid to admit it to each other. After she mistakenly thinks that Warne has run out on her Ellie returns to King Wesley, but for how long?

6. The General 1929, Clyde Bruckman & Buster Keaton
Union solders have stolen The General, a Confederate train manned by Johnnie Gray, who was unable to enlist in the Confederate army because he is needed as an engineer. The Union plans to use the train to supply its soldiers in a sneak attack against the Confederates. But now it’s up to Gray and his love, Annabelle Lee, to reclaim The General, recross enemy lines, and warn the Confederates.

7. Begotten 1991, E. Elias Merhige
God disembowels himself with a straight razor. The spirit-like Mother Earth emerges, venturing into a bleak, barren landscape. Twitching and cowering, the Son Of Earth is set upon by faceless cannibals

8. The Gold Rush 1925, Charles Chaplin
A lone prospector ventures into Alaska looking for gold. He gets mixed up with some burly characters and falls in love with the beautiful Georgia. He tries to win her heart with his singular charm.

9. It’s a Wonderful Life 1946, Frank Capra
George Bailey spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls, as we see in flashback. But in the present, on Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over the misplacing of an $8000 loan and the machinations of the evil millionaire, Mr. Potter. His guardian angel, Clarence, falls to Earth, literally, and shows him how his town, family, and friends would turn out if he had never been born. George meant so much to so many people; should he really throw it all away?

10. All Quiet on the Western Front 1930, Lewis Milestone
This is an English language film (made in America) adapted from a novel by German author Erich Maria Remarque. The film follows a group of German schoolboys, talked into enlisting at the beginning of World War 1 by their jingoistic teacher. The story is told entirely through the experiences of the young German recruits and highlights the tragedy of war through the eyes of individuals. As the boys witness death and mutilation all around them, any preconceptions about “the enemy” and the “rights and wrongs” of the conflict disappear, leaving them angry and bewildered. This is highlighted in the scene where Paul mortally wounds a French soldier and then weeps bitterly as he fights to save his life while trapped in a shell crater with the body. The film is not about heroism but about drudgery and futility and the gulf between the concept of war and the actuality.

Bonus: 1984 1984, Michael Radford
After The Atomic War the world is divided into three states. London is the capital of Oceania, ruled by a party who has total control over all its citizens. Winston Smith is one of the bureaucrats, rewriting history in one of the departments. One day he commits the crime of falling in love with Julia. They try to escape Big Brother’s listening and viewing devices, but, of course, nobody can really escape…

Death Proof - Extended and Unrated

Death Proof is an instant classic and cult favorite. As I watched the first part of the movie I was left wanting.. anything, anything at all to happen. The movie is plagued with extreme lows but then is blessed with with extreme highs. Interplanetary highs. So as I started to fall asleep during the first part, thinking that I bought some weird chick flick, all of the sudden an explosion of blood and guts splattered all over the screen. Then it happens again and again, each time getting more gruesome and more out of control. Kurt Russell is awesome as "Stuntman Mike", and Quentin makes his appearance as expected. One of the main girls has a Michael Jackson nose. Luckily her face gets ripped off.
It's worth bearing through the weakness to witness the total insanity that is sure to follow.
Buy it for 23 bucks.

The Darjeeling Limited - Video Clip

Looks like a lot of that great dead-pan humor that we've come to expect from Wes Anderson! And remember, it is set to come out September 29th.

Halo 3 - First Impressions

So, we just got Halo 3. It came with some goodies too; t-shirt, hat, $10.00 discount for preordering, and a free copy of the new Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (which looks kinda weak). First online game was won with 25 kills. Some new things to look forward to: Slighlty different controls (pretty minor though), new levels, new soundtrack, crazy good graphics, new weapons and vehicles. Also, a new story in campaign mode. It's pretty amazing, and it looks like school is going to take a few more semesters than anticipated. Post your own reviews in the comments of this post.

Wobble Cognac Glasses from MoMA

When you are feeling sophisticated but also want to chill in style, you may need to sip from these Wobble Cognac Glasses from MoMA. And good news! They are made in Turkey!
Why try to out-do MoMA's write up that was done by some expensive marketing company? So straight from the horse's mouth: "A beautiful combination of function and whimsy, the cognac glass was designed with bouquet, temperature, and volume in mind. The graceful wobble shape of the glass increases the pleasure, deep color, and movement of the liquid. Made of hand-blown glass. Set of 2. Hand-wash only."

More Frank Gehry Furiture

Frank Gehry is an amazing architect/designer. Duh.
As you can see, his furniture is pretty sweet, not that his architecture isn't sweet, but real humans can't buy that. You saw the Wiggle Chair, now see this. This furniture set was the Best of Show winner at Neocon in 2004 and you would think such a crative genius would come up with a pretty good name for his stuff, but you would be wrong. This set is called 'The Gehry Outdoor Collection'. The sofa is $1,200, the cube is $210, and the bench is $420. But get the whole set, it would be at least 3 times better.

Deluxe USB Podcast Studio Pack

Here is the perfect solution to your crappy podcasts that you make on your crappy computer. With this nice little package you will be able to achieve studio quality audio recordings... on your crappy computer. You get the USB mic that features a 19mm internal shock mounted diaphragm with a cardioid pick up pattern that ensures pristine studio quality. You also get a shock mounted desktop mic stand and Cakewalk Sonar LE audio workstation software. Oh, and what could possibly be the coolest part of the package: a sweet aluminum briefcase to store all these goodies in, or all of your secret documents/stacks of unmarked bills.
Also cool: It's available from Think Geek, so go stock up on Geek Points.

BMW 1 Series

The poor mans BMW, is now... a BMW. Starting at under $30,000 US, BMW has finally released the 1 series. You can't get any lower then that. If by now you haven't gotten the point, we think it's a little silly to be ruining what was once such a great brand. This being said, the stats are quite impressive. The 135i gets the engine that was once in the 335, producing an outstanding 300 horses. For $5000 cheaper and 70 hp less, the 128i will leave you wishing you got the 335. I think BMW's prestige level just fell a few thousand points, but I'm sure the sales will increase. Now everyone and their mailman can own a 'BMW'.
Buy yours here... if you really want to.

New Halo 3 Ad, & Diorama

This is the new Halo 3 ad that has just come out. It's a new approach to the video game ads, which is nice. It is basically just a huge diorama set up to feature a massive Halo 3 battle.
"According to Bungie, this "1200-square-foot diorama created for them [marketing team], is meant to be a generic representation of a series of battles, perhaps a levels worth in Halo 3"
More pics of the diorama: Pic 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
"Frankie says the diorama, which stands 12 feet tall and is peopled with 8 to 19-inch hand-crafted figures, is currently being taken apart with plans to perhaps have it tour the country, stopping at Halo events and maybe even a few museums"

Feature: Your Favorite Enemies

The band: Starting from the left: Ben Lemelin, Jeff Beaulieu, Alex Foster, Miss Isabel,Sef Lemelin & Charles Allicy
Your Favorite Enemies is a band out of Montreal Canada who have exploded onto the Myspace community and recently expanded into the European scene. The mixture of male and female vocals are what set this band apart from all the rest as it adds a lot to the music and it's not too overwhelming, like a lot bands with female vocals. It sounds a little like Jimmy Eat World and Evanescence wrapped into a nice little omelet du fromage.
"Those well known Amnesty International spokespersons deliver a crisp and unique sound with a social conscience, through their music. During the past year, the band totally took over Myspace and managed to build fan bases worldwide which now leads them to hit the road for a European tour next fall." yourfavoriteenemies.com

Slabco Records - Free Tunes

Slabco was started by a bunch of friends who met in collage. They pretty much had an all star cast of bands, I say had because they are no longer in operation. And I am telling you this because they are now giving away all their bands mp3s for free from the Slabco website (Almost 200). Their list of bands include: Casiocore (our favorite), Analog Cabin, Sukpatch, Volume All*Star, Dynomite D, Sientific American, and Explosion Robinson.
They have done a lot of songs for commercials for companies such as MTV, VH1, Adidas, Converse, Saturn, Barneys, and Napster.
You fill find tonnes of beats, scratches, samples, it's all amazing stuff. We are waiting for a resurrection collaboration album from these guys, but we may be waiting quite a while. I will look into it for you.

The ThinkGeek Chain Mail T-Shirt

Think Geek brings you, as always, another great/useful product. How could a chain mail t-shirt not be useful? Defending girls honor with fights to the death will definitely require this protective casing. Also, slaying dragons is tough without chain mail - trust us. This t-shirt is made from thousands of tiny aluminum rings and equals 20 lbs. For $100 you could get a really nice button up dress shirt... or the ability to be stabbed several times without shedding blood.
Good thing is, you will always be ready for battle. And if you get dirty just hose yourself off with the hose, or let the blood crust.

Frank Gehry's Wiggle Chair

Frank Gehry is Toronto born and world renowned post modernist/structuralist architect and designer. He is easily the favorite designer of all of brblife's staff. His architectural genius is seen around the world with the Guggenheim Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Gehry Residence, Weisman Art Museum, and 'Dancing House'. Now it can be seen in your own living room.
"This Frank Gehry cardboard furniture design is the classic award-winning chair made of intricate layers of cardboard and by one of society's most important architects. The Wiggle chair and the Side chair are single fluid shapes contoured to make a masterpiece."

Bottle Opener / Fridge Magnet from Suck UK

We have been using this tool sent from the gods for quite some time now, and it's heavenly. It's actually just really cool. I have explained it the best anyone can in the title of this post. It's exactly what it seems like, but we found it's being used even more than we initially thought. I think we have easily doubled our casual beverage consumption because of this thing. It's just so much fun. We have even managed to enhance the fun by positioning a strong magnet below the opener to catch the falling bottle caps! Ingenious! Patent Pending, Patent Pending, Patent Pending. We are taking partnership applications to develop our (future) Nobel Prize winning design.

What more could you ask for in a table but the best element of all, fire. Fuego brings you this sweet combination with their line of fire design products. In the picture above we have the Epsilon (~£1,000), a coffee table that also is a fire pit. They have a few other fire table designs and what they call Fire Slots. These are pretty much what they sound like. They are basically the fire part of the tables but inside an enclave you put on your wall. Which looks really classy and is also around £1,500. More Robot Slaves - Automower

I know what you must be thinking, oh yeah whatever, another stupid Romba thing that's stupid and doesn't work. However, in this case you may be wrong. This autonomous electric lawnmower robot slave actually seems pretty good. It is electric so its going to be really quiet and it's really safe. If it happens to bump into anything, it just stops and finds a way around it and continues on its way.
Oh, and it looks f'ing sweet! Like a mini Lambo that also does yard work. Check out the interactive movie, installation videos, and many testimonials.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Another Batman movie. We are always up for anything Batman, but another movie? Come on. But wait, Christopher Nolan is directing? Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and (meh.) Heath Ledger on the cast? Cool. It looks like its going to be really dark and actually kind of good. The inevitable Joker/Batman battle at the end where Batman rips Jokers head off with his bare hands after hitting him in the balls with his grappling hook*... is bound to be epic. Here is a little synopsis for ya, "Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker's crimes grow more and more deadly."
A very poorly recorded 'leaked' trailer here.
*Speculation (as in a joke, for all you dummies out there)

Feature: Sukpatch

They say that their music sounds like a can of spray paint. By creating new patches and beats and then layering them with vocals and a little guitar, Sukpatch creates "a glorious trip into their hazy, psychedelic world, where lazy guitar riffs ease around woozy beats and hypnotic synths." From Minneapolis and Newport, Kentucky Sukpatch is currently on Moshi Moshi Records and has several albums under their belts. Our favorite songs are the more instrumental melodic beats and synths. So if you're like us, then look out for songs such as; Medium Self Employed,Au Pair and Hey Jolie.

Interview with Sukpatch.

Brblife: We first heard you on Slabco Records. Why the change to Moshi Moshi Records?

A: Yes Slabco! That was our first home. We all met in college, we were kind of this collective of bands, or more accurately a bunch of kids with 4 tracks. It was a tape only label. It kind of evolved and Steven(Slabco) finally got the money to release cd's, after several 7" records he released Haulin' Grass and Smoking Ass, and Honky Tonk Operation. At that point I guess majors labels began sniffing around and somehow we wound up on Grand Royal. It seemed like all the Slabco bands (land of the loops...etc) were trying for bigger an better things, not that we didn't love Slabco and Steven and the whole gang, but it just seems to be what happened to everyone back in those days. Moshi came about in the midst of all of this, we did a 7" with them, which was the very first Moshi Moshi release, it has a song called "Hey Jolie" on the A side, and it is still one of the best songs we ever made! Anyway, this is a long story I know, Grand Royal had signed us right after, and we sort of toiled there, we released "Tie Down that Shiny Wave", and as the label began to crumble our full length release "Naturalisms" got lost in the shuffle, although it did come out in Japan. After grand royal closed we were pretty distraught and kind of went on a 5 year hiatus. During that time we recorded "23", I emailed the moshi guys the stuff we had been working on while hiding out, and they jumped on releasing it, we had always wanted to do a full length with them, so we went for it.

Brblife: The first Sukpatch song we heard was Au Pair, can you tell us about this song?
A: Yeah, I remember that one, that was the first song we made that really got people into us. It was a sample, which I cannot reveal, and some crazy beat I had made, there was almost nothing to it. I handed it to Steve and the next day he played me what he had sung. I think when I first heard it I didn't know what to think, it was a total departure from what we had been doing. We were just playing guitars and drums, we were all about the K records scene going on at the time. But after that song, we decided to sell off all of our guitars and amps and bought samplers and keyboards. A real turning point song.

Brblife: How has your music changed from 1997 album "haulin' grass and smokin' ass" onward?
Well, Haulin' grass was the first release where we were guitar-less. That became our thing I guess, and it was really working. I think Honky Tonk Operation was a continuation of that idea, it was an ep that followed up Haulin'. I don't know that the formula changed all that much until we signed to grand royal, and it became clear that they weren't all that comfortable with us using loops, basically they didn't want to pay for clearing them. So I think at that point we began playing more instruments again, but it still sounded like Sukpatch. I think "23" is a lot different, we played guitar all over that thing, we were kind of getting back to writing songs the way we did when we first started making music. I suppose it is much more of an indie-rock sounding thing, although we still have beats and all that.

Brblife: Why should we buy your newest album? What have you brought to the table this time?
A: You know... I don't know. Ha! It's pretty hot! Do people buy music anymore?

Brblife: We are really into the chilled melodies and the epic beats, what songs should we look for if we want to here this type of stuff?
A: " 7:30 Tomorrow" is like the archetypal Sukpatch sound! It's the mellow kind of stoner electro sounding thing that we do best. Sopenyo is pretty epic! Kinda has the choppy Haulin' Grass sound to it. I think that "Bottom of the Well" might be the strongest song on the record, and is kind of a news sound for us, just a beat a rhodes and an acoustic guitar. "Medium Self Employed" is rather nice, a real freakout.

Brblife: What was it like working with the likes of the Beastie Boys?
A: It was cool, it certainly opened a lot of doors for us. The demise of Grand Royal was a real bummer, a lot of us bands on the label were really hurt by how they went about it.

Brblife: Tell us about any interesting stories you may have from your encounters with people at Grand Royal, or about any other celebrity gossip.
A: I got stories! But you are going to have to get me drunk before I will say!!!

Brblife: How can we get a hold of any of your cds?
A: well that is a good question, I know that "23" is available on iTunes domestically, cd's were made for the UK /europe release, and there is a Japanese version out there too. But no cd's in the states, except imports. I guess our music is always going to be impossible to find! I think you can find our Slabco stuff here and there, actually last time I checked I think Steven was giving away all the early Sukpatch records for free (downloads) on Slabco.com, so that would be the best place to look. I have like 500 copies of tie down that shiny wave in my closet... you want em?!?!

Brblife: Finally, tell us about a cool product that you have seen or used recently that would fair well on our website.
A: Well I do like my iPhone quite a bit.

Unlocked iPhone

iPhones are pretty sweet. They are the coolest, newest, do it all gadget available to man. It is a benchmark in human history and is the beginning of a new generation of electronic device. But with everything yin there is a yang, and every Jedi, a Sith. You see, the iPhone has had a lot of politics about it when it was time for its release. I guess the highest bidder to be the provider for the iPhone was Cingular/AT&T. So that means if you use a different carrier, and want the iPhone (who doesn't?) then you need to switch your cell phone company. This is, unless, you have the privileged information that we have. You must be pretty happy that you read this blogazine now arn't you, you lucky duck you. Anyway, if you have deep pockets, and want the luxury of using the iPhone with any carrier you want, then you can buy an unlocked iPhone. We have found them being sold from a few of locations. The first place to look is puremobile.com where it will cost you nearly $1100 USD. The second place we've found them is popularelect.com, where you will expect to spend around $1200 USD. Finally, you can always find them, or pretty much anything, on eBay where it might actually be cheaper then the previous stores.

Beowulf, Pride is the curse. (2007)

A new Beowulf movie is coming out on November 16. Directing this ancient epic tale is non other then Robert Zemeckis who has many films under his belt such as all the Tales from the Crypt, The Frighteners, What lies Beneath, Forrest Gump, and Cast Away. Also on board is legendary writer Neil Gaiman, known for his fantastic and award winning graphic novels, The Sandman Series and 1602.
The movie is going to be entirely CG. It will have really actors though (including a naked Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich) but just masked with computer renditions. Kind of like A Scanner Darkly.
There has been many adaptations of this epic poem, I especially liked the somewhat lower budget Beowulf & Grendel (2005)
It's the blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. It has an amazing looking trailer. Click the link below to check it out.

Free TV Shows and Movies Anyone?

Ever want unlimited access to an endless collection of cartoons, TV shows, anime, movies, music videos, sports videos, and documentaries? Well, me too. And I can. At Alluc.org you get to have this privilege and all for just the easy one time payment of free. Amazing right? Yes, but the downside is that some of the videos turn out to be dead links, different language, split into several parts, and over all less then stellar quality. The movies are usually sniped from movie theaters, so if you can handle putting up with all this, and I know you can, then you're welcome. The TV shows, music videos, and all that are usually pretty decent quality.

Clark And Michael

Clark And Michael are Clark Duke (Greek, Superbad) and Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Superbad) It is a 10 episode online series with CBS that takes the form of a mockumentary chronicling Clark and Michaels efforts to pitch a script to various studios. If you like Arrested Development or Superbad, you'll definitely enjoy this series. The deadpan comedy and subtleties that Cera brings to all his projects are what make this series just so damn good. He does stuff like his own version of the little glances toward the camera that you find delivered by David Brent (Manager) in the british version of The Office.
Interesting fact: Michael Cera is actually from Brampton Ontario.
Check out all 10 episodes at the official website.

Wine Decanter with Vacuum Pump

It just arrived, and its totally sweet. It works well too. From Hammacher-Schlemmer, who apparently only sell the best of everything, comes "The Vacuum Pump Wine Preserver With Gauge And Decanter WAS 79.95 NOW 39.95"
So, for all you n00bs out there, it is best to decant your red wine because the pouring aerates the wine thus releasing all the aromas trapped inside. But too much exposure to air wrecks your wine, so thats why you need the vacuum pump to pump the air out of the decanter when you want to save it for later.
Even without the futuristic air pump, the decanter itself looks like a cool laboratory beaker- so you can pretend to be drinking potion.

Krudmart's Online Store

According to their website, The Krudmart was started in early summer 2002 by two guys looking to dump overstocked inventory on ebay but eventually it grew into something more. It became an online retailer with it's own identity, a creative outlet and a way to get cheap clothes for themselves by carrying more and more of the brands they liked.
It features many rare and unique brand name clothes and gear, my favorites being; Fuct, Stabs, 2K, Quiet Life, Gravis, Durkl, and Kid America Club.
